We did have to take the tumbler out in order to make enough room to pull the assembly out. With the tumbler still in and the assembly loose, pulling it to the right ran it into plastic molding on the dash. Taking the tumbler out allowed us to pull the assembly to the right just behind the molding and it came right out.
