Never thought of using the led plate units - the new Osram led tube bulbs now come with a deflector on half of the bulb - just angle the deflector toward the back of the housing, and all the light goes out to the cargo area.

The units are a bit tight in the OEM cutout but fit just fine.

I also did something similar in the cabin foot wells, I added one LED light each side.
