You could just use the speaker leads for the rear channel of the head unit (that is what I did on my coupe).. I don't think anyone has been impressed with the less than 4v output rating.
That sounds like a reasonable idea, but it might not provide as much control over the subwoofers as I would have if they were wired through the subwoofer preouts running at 4 volts. I think I am leaning toward exchanging my head unit for one with 4 volt outputs. I might as well do it right the first time.
