So I am going to tackle a project for a friend and I am needing to know exact steps for removing the throttle body, also does it require a new gasket if you take it off to clean it. Just looking for a PDf or list of steps here and tools needed as far as specialty torx sizes. thanks.
The issue we are exploring is: Idle surge, stalls some, and even has slight surging at speed. her car has 180K miles on it as well. Replaced the plugs and wires already. New MAf too. So i am bringing my airbox to see if the seal is no good on hers between the box and the MAf/throttlebody housing. Also going to check the tightness of the intake bolts to make sure those arent sucking in air. Planning on pulling a couple of the plugs to check for rich or lean mixture. Throttle body reset, and taking off the throttle body and cleaning it. Thinking maybe the carbon/exhaust gas build up is causing a sealing issue making the car choke itself out and not keep a nice rev. Other than the idle and surging the car has no knocks, valve noise, or blowing of smoke so these cars are truly built to last.
Bought a mid 90's merc c280 that had a case of not keeping idle well and running insanley rich, cleaned throttle body up and it fixed a ton of issues, narrowed it down to a bad MAF sensor that i need to order, so i plan on using process of deduction to solve her issue.
thanks
