i was talking to a guy that does a lot of hot rod paint locally, he asked me the same thing.
i had pulled the silver guards off last week and the entire door edge is trashed on the drivers side door edge 9i had a hunch)
anyway this guy asks me if i had considered a thinner (i/4") shinny black or flat black trim.
he said that the silver is tough to blend in, especially on the edge.
i'm going to talk to 5 other shops on a list i have put together, and see what everyone has to say about it
