That is a tow hook and I really wish I could get rid of it. I think it's so ugly but it's welded onto the metal post behind that mini grille. Until I can figure out how to safely remove it or find someone who can, I'm going to paint it the same grey as the body.
The prior owner may have raced, or did track days with the car on a track that required them, or recommended them, to reduce risk of damaging the car if it had to be pulled back to the pit. As the car was upgraded with SRT wheels, and front bumper, maybe the prior owner thought the hook was an upgrade.
