Just how far past the halfway mark did it go? If not more than a needle-width past, you are fine - the engine cooling fan does not run full speed until the coolant gets to around 215F, which is about a needle-width past halfway.
VERY nice info to know! In the summer I have noticed mine slightly above the middle mark, and was distracted enough to keep my one good eye on it more than occasionally. It never did go 'higher', just annoyed me. Good info to know!
