Ran into that back in '80 when my '78 V8 4-speed Sunbird (factory) was ignored for a chromed out 6 cyl automagic. Just depends on the crowd.
AACA is a mix: the individual marque forums are interested in everything about the marque (and the Crossfire would fit right in but already has this forum) but the general discussion circles around "stock is stock and real cars have bias ply tires".
Seems to me that CICCI is their own organization, can make their own rules, and anyone who wants to change that should join.
