I once had a MB module from Ebay ( had the star emblem in the plastic horn ), but it too suffered from a dead battery after about a year.
There ARE MB compatible modules, problem is finding one that still has life left in it, and this would include any off the shelf modules with the proper Crossfire part number.

I ended up with a module from a junk yard that hadn't corroded the board, and replaced the batteries in it.
