Default Re: SRT-6 -- Strong Fumes/Burning Odor

Hi Everyone,

I think I'm done with this project for now. Will call it a win thanks to guidance from the forum.

Valve cover leaks have been subdued. Most likely, they will be back since the heads of 2 screws were broken off during the reinstall. I was not fully prepared as I did not know I should use new screws prior to starting. I drove the heck out of the car after finishing and let it run a while. After the initial burnoff, no sign or scent or drip. It probably won't return before I put the car away for Winter, however, when I pull it out in Spring, I'll be prepared (ordered the valve cover screw set from NeedsWings ).

The fumes/burning smell has been greatly eliminated. Can't tell if it's 100% at this point because the scent is embedded in cabin, seats and probably air vents. Will have to let it air out a bit.

Overall, the car is bearable to drive now, however, as a result of all I did, I noticed a few things:

Noticeable Loss of Power - I am AMAZED at how much raw acceleration and power was loss by swapping the makeshift hot air intake system out with an OEM intake. Also gone, however is the general smell of gas. I could smell it through the exhaust when the car was running but standing still. I have no experience in all of this, but I'm guessing that the computer was over-compensating when it came to providing gas with the makeshift air intake in place.

Warmer Air from Air Conditioner - Noticed that the air coming from the air conditioner does not get as cold now. Does not have that chill. It's just barely cool. Don't know what could have caused this. Coincidence?

So now, on my list will be getting that dual cold air intake system from NeedsWings. I got kinda addicted to the power and acceleration that makeshift air intake provided.

We'll give it a bit to see if anything else pops up first.

Thanks so much all!!
JMW
