Been a couple of years since I did it, but to clean the breather, I think you get better access to the internal galleries by pulling the full covers off ..??
Mine were full of crap since the previous owner didnt change the oil for at least 35k miles prior and possibly even used semi synthetic - #lotsofgunk.
Use MB recomm. RTV and maybe consider changing the cover gaskets whilst out.

PS - If the oil is clean on a tissue wipe of the dipstick - not always guarantee of good service intervals - may have just been changed - should use MB recommended Mobil1_0W-40 as well = $$.
