What kind of smell? Gas, oil, exhaust? Running rough, is that like on 5 cylinders? Maybe a fouled plug, bad plug wire, or even a dead coil pack to one plug, but these items would throw a check engine light and trouble codes. If you don't have a scanner ,you can go to about any parts place an they would be more than happy to check those for you.
