An oldish thread but there is a PDF on how to rebuild the pump if you have the ability. I guess it all depends what has failed.
If you do not have pollution checks on the car in your area and you can suffer the light being on you can ignore it. There are some who blocked of the ports with a plate and carried on without the pump.
