You have another problem then, doing as you say on my car sets the alarm. This is indicated by the flashing light on the dash.
It may stop your siren but the alarm system has probably been armed.
I can see people going out to their cars and trying your method.
No flashing light on the dash with this method.
The fuel cap flap stays unlocked but everything else is locked.
My keys are set to unlock the drivers door and fuel cap with one press of the fob. A second press opens the boot and passenger door.
