I am concerned when anything critical to an engine is plastic.
You are getting paranoid, boost the meds.
People have somehow managed to snap them when changing the filter.
The part does come apart and contains a part that I did not know existed - learn something new every day or get senile.

Is this statement correct?
The plastic is upstream of the filter anyway, the oil coming up the center of the assembly, exiting through the filter and oil cooler (SRT) and then down the outer hole back to the sump.

Plastic is used more often these days in cars, look at your car if every thing on it was metal it would weigh much more, also plastic parts can be molded to shapes that metal could not be. The plastics used are not the common plastics used for containers etc, they are engineering plastics often filled with glass fibers. Go back 30 years and you could not imagine a radiator that used plastic for the end tanks, hose inlets and outlets. I have not had one of these type of tanks leak like the old brass ones did constantly.
