Lots of discussion on this topic. Owner's manual recommends fluid meeting MB 236.2 spec
or 5w-20 motor oil as a substitute, although it doesn't specifically mention synthetic. I've tried everything to improve the shifting and finally landed on the MB factory fill for SLK and C-Class manual trannys. See below thread for more info.
