Thanks guys. Luckily I still have a few parts laying around, but not what I need to put it back together.
Would the car actually turnover without the transponder in the key?
As for chasing down the issue, I'm getting freaked out now after reading about the ECU frying itself if I continue connecting/disconnecting the battery. For now I'm leaving it connected, but I had to disconnect the vacuum pump in the hatch to get the exterior lights to go out. It's full of water, as well as the spare that was in the truck. I don't believe they are repairable, so I'll be ordering a used one from ebay.
The theft control module in the hatch is junk also. It was soaked and there's rust on the circuit board. Also, the tow light was illuminating on the switch, but went out when I disconnected the module
I think the RCM is good, since the fan isn't coming on when it fails to start. A brand new uninstalled spare RCM came with the car, but I don't think it's needed.
I ordered the skreem module, since the car will crank over an briefly start if I disconnect/reconnect the battery. Does this seem like I"m on the right path?
By the way, it appears the previous owner also installed a used TCU in the passenger floorboard.
Do I have to disconnect the battery to install the skreem module?
Here's the old pulse module with rust on it:
