Yes the negative jumper cable was connected to the fender metal. Also, I had the cable on there for quite some time before cranking and also repositioned the jumpers then tried again after a little bit of time had passed. Battery connector ends looked clean and free of battery fluid. Did not check the state of the negative cable to the fender. Going to do that now then most likely suspect the battery!
