Mercury switches might be OK if you always parked on a consistently level surface. They can be quite delicate when set but if they are not in the same plane as when set they will give false readings and a slightly ajar trunk lid could be read as fully closed. Micro switches can be set like a hair trigger and work at any angle but the quality of the switch must be good to repeat the settings, and the contacts inside must be of good quality as well.
Cheap does not cut the mustard over the long haul.
