Went to the auto parts store and bought a mixed set of fuses for $8. Checked each of the fuses that had anything to do with the IR remote system. All were good and ready to have the dealer perform his surgery on my wallet. Pushed each of the fuses into their slots, just to make sure. The car started up with the old key fob. The key fob with new batteries did not work. Used the instructions in the manual to reprogram the fob (press the lock or unlock button on the fob twice and then insert the key into the ignition and the on position within 30 seconds). The second key fob with new batteries synched. I am now in good shape. Out $8 and have a great story.
