Inner and outer bearings are different sizes, but both hubs are the same, had to be what he meant, if he did mean left and right hub where different, I would say thank you and leave that shop and never return.
Bearings when the run dry and wear out give a whining sound, usually a wobble is upper or lower ball joints or tie rods.
How many miles on your car?
Bearings and races and seals are cheap local napa probably has them in stock. Around $20 a side.
A shop should not charge much, as it does not take that long to do, they will have a big press and a torch.
They are easy to put in if you know how to work magic with a freezer and a oven to use temperature to shrink and expand the metals.
A driver makes things alittle easier but I use sockets or piece of oak.
Adjusting tension on bearings is easy.
Biggest problem with bearings is people not knowing how to properly pack a bearing, I hand pack only, or they use the wrong grease, yes a huge difference, all purpose grease will not work, does not take the Temps and will liquify.
