I would get it repaired if possible. I've had several chips repaired on various vehicles and never had one crack out any further. I would put a piece of tape over the chip so that it doesn't get any dirt inside the chip and try to keep the area dry. The less junk in the chip, the better the repair bond will be. Also, this should help the repair be less visible than if you are looking at a bunch of dirt that is now forever bonded into your windshield.
