2) Sounds to me like a generic crank sensor was installed. Others have reported that non-Bosch, locally obtained CPSs from Autozone, etc. will act like this.

3) Chrysler does not make parts for these cars, they never did. What's worse, is they stock (apparently) no parts to speak of, either.

#2 What Pizzaguy said. Sounds like an intermittent (not short) in the CPS connector. Let us know if a BOSCH CPS replacement fixes this.
