Default Re: Brake dust

If you want to try a decent set of low dust brake pads there are a few that seem to work well on our SLK's.
The Porterfield R4S pads I have on my SLK 32 were the prototypes for the SLK's, and I've had them on since August of 2001. 25,000 miles multiple track days and three years of autocross and the pads still have plenty of life in them. The initial dust for the first week or two didn't look promising, but that was only until the pads bedded in, once seated they were FAR better then stock.
The other pads that seem to work well were AXXIS MetalMasters. They seem to have more resins in them and they have a strong brake smell to them until they seat and "cook off" but they are excellent pads. I had them on my SLK 230 Kompressor.
Of the two, I think the AXXIS pads are a little cleaner, but the Porterfields are a little better at very high speeds and under VERY heavy braking...
