If I recall didn’t someone spill a drink on his shifter and it caused the same problem?
Anyway I had ‘limp’ mode in a basically identical tranny and it was caused by a faulty solenoid. The car drives in second gear all the time this is to save further damage to the tranny and not leave you stranded.
