My 2005 is having the same problem. It only drives in a lower gear (I guess First but your limp mode description sounds more accurate) and it bangs into gear when I put it in drive. I’m suspecting an electrical problem but was hoping not to have to pay through my nose to take it to a dealer. But I’m having trouble finding anyone else willing to look at it. Any advice and guidance would be appreciated.
