My intention with this post is not to discourage anyone from working on their car, or to criticize any option suggested. I recalled a man being killed in the area when his truck fell off a jack while he was under it working. I searched for that incident and found too many recent incidents of men being killed when their vehicle fell off a jack. Shown below are just a few of the links to examples in the news. All the jacks I've seen that come with cars to change tires are flimsy and never appropriate to use to work under the car. I would never get under a car with just a hydraulic jack unless I had a couple of strong jack stands under the car as well. Even then there are potential risks by a number of factors.
