There is also a microswitch on the trunk latch that indicates the trunk is down and latched. The activation lever gets malformed over time as it is always under pressure. Remove the plastic cover on the underside of the deck lid and disconnect the 2 wire connector (brown wires if I recall), close the trunk and see if that solves the problem. The switch is reverse logic to me, (open circuit when activated) so if the wires are disconnected, the controller thinks the trunk is latched, therefore it is OK to lower the top. This is a common failure. I checked several latches from junk yards and they all were defective. Sad to say, there is no way to re-form the switch lever that I was able to come up with. If that is the problem, please re-post and I'll show the work around I came up with.
for whatever reason I do not see a micro switch on the trunk latch is there anyway I can get a picture of the micro switch the wires I connected were the wires for the micro switch that when you pull that cover up in supposed to get connected to make contact I hope I explained it properly
