I suspect the effect of the oil catch can is imagined, it does stop oil going into the engine though. I would imagine that regular and super gas has just the same additives to keep the engine clean. I use Shell 91 octane as it has no ethanol in it. I doubt I could tell the difference between 89 and 93 octane fuel in a blind test.
