Big thanks to all who contributed to the potential solutions to this problem.
I read all the posts and then used an infrared laser thermometer. to read the temperature on both sides of the pipes at the control valves, sure enough one side was the same as the feed pipe but the drivers side valve significantly lower, bought a replacement fifteen minutes to sap problem solved
