Go to a body shop, talk with the manager and purchase from them the best two sided tape they have. The clips from the factory use two side tape to attach the plastic trim to the metal clip. This is purposefully done as the two surfaces are different material and the two sided tape makes the best adhesion to dissimilar materials. I don't think the tape available at auto parts stores is the best for the job; thus find something better at a body shop, or body shop supplier.
