they are stay pads. they prevent wear from movement of the top against the frame. everytime i replace a top i make sure those are in good shape along with the tension cords. neither are avilable from the dealer anymore. i came across a aftermarket top place once that sells aftermarket replacement stay pads. as far as the tension cords go. i just make my own.

Edit: i take it back, the stay pads are available again from the dealer for $275.00.
