Pushing against a spring catch releases the undercut in the license plate light body. There is a spring catch at each, using a credit card and depressing a spring catch helps.
The spring catches are identical at each end, the photo attached only shows the spring catch clearly at one end. I think the light body can also be released just by sliding the body all the way to the left or right.
The lens is not shown in the photo.
