I have been using external tpms for awhile in my oem wheels, and in my 18x8.5 & 19x11 wheels.
On my esr wheels, I have Short metal valve stems siliconed in, tires balanced with the tpms caps installed.

They work good, alot better than oem, carry extra batteries.
Before use, use included tools to separate where you can get to battery and use some teflon tap on the threads.
I used a small dab of silicone smoothed around oring and let dry.

They need a better seal from moisture where the battery is.
