i have read that using a memory saver you can avoid this.
i would like to ask the experts the details on how to do it. what parts, where to get them, where to connect it, everything.
thank you.
so far i have learned that you have to connect a memory saver to a source such as the cigarette lighter, but on some cars (like the xf) it is not functional until the engine is running or the circuit is closed (lights on the dash on) so it has to be connected to the OBDII connector.
perhaps using something like this? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/OBDII-Car-EC...4AAOSwbRRcw8zN
in this pic it shows a pack where they are connected .
edit: i managed to read the name and found several. now the question is if there is any experience using it (or similar). thanks.

Hey Phil, I have a memory saver that uses a 9v battery. I've used it on one of my collection. It worked perfectly, which amazed me to be honest. It was cheap too.
I know that the crossfire doesn't have an active circuit to the cigar(ette) lighter unless the key is in the run position. The remedy to this is to hack into one of the circuits that is always alive. That would be the parking lights for me. You can create any type of connection you want after using the type of wire tap(s) that are readily available. I don't know of any danger to the skreem module and from reading exhaustively, I think everybody is guessing. Please, no offense to anyone on this. I don't pretend to be an expert but I have been preserving my fuel trims and keeping batteries charged while cars are in storage for decades. Anyway, it is apparent the mercedes electrical system has some gremlins. I personally am not worried that tapping into my parking lights via a wire tap is going to jeopardize other components. I may learn the hard way but that won't be something new.. .
