I lost my only key
I have had several key experts look at it to no avail got new key from needwings in USA I sent vin number ect
new key would not work starts and stops and after 3 attempts you have to disconnect battery annd start agains.
The so called experts here in oz are no help looks like imobiliser is faulty i have checked RCM looks ok
Am i correct with following asumptions
1. New key coded to Vin should be plug and Play
2. The chip in the Key is recognised by the ring around the lock mechinism
passes info to imobilser it sends message to ECU its ok to Start .
if not the right info then RCM cuts fuel off
Question
1. Does key have to be programmed into imobiliser 2. Does key info have to be programmed in ECU as well
3. if i buy second hand key and imobiliser from a wrecked car should it plug and play or do i have to buy ECU as well
thanks
Graeme
How long have you had this trouble? Why did you not explain to NWs as soon as you had trouble?
The keys are plug and play as far as starting the car, you may or may not have to program thee fob to remotely open the doors.
If the keys chip is not correct the electronics do not work after the wrong code is received. Obviously the fuel pump will not work at that time but nothing else does either, so it is not the fuel pump alone that quits and fails to start the car otherwise the car would run longer.
You would need the ECU as well, possible problems are that the VIN read would not match the one on the car and the mileage would not match the cars actual mileage.
When you buy an SKREEM and or fob the mileage is set at your cars original VIN key codes and mileage as needed.
I think what I have said is all true, if not others will be glad to correct me.
