They have these elongated tabs on the backside of each. Once you put the mats in place, you reach behind and spin them up 90 degrees behind the interior panels. This holds the sides perfectly in place. They are on both sides of each mat. They also came with velcro strips for the front and rear, but I didn't need to use those, the mats stay perfectly in place.
