That tape is a bit too narrow, it would be easier if wider tape was used.

I would not use glue, tape is very good, just use the 3M Auto tape made for the job not the cheaper everyday tape.

It is wise to check each letter every now and again to look for loose letters, finding a loose letter is better than having find a replacement.
