Default I found this part to be the cause of the erratic climate control fan speed

When I would turn the fan speed ****, I found the speed to to be erratic. So, I took the unit apart and discovered that the shaft connected to the back of the fan control **** rotated a little variable resistor. I connected a ohm meter and turned the resistor instead of being a linear rise or fall, the needle on the ohm meter, was erratic just like the fan speed.
I think the resistor directly controls the voltage to the climate control fan. I removed and replaced the resistor with a new one on two separate units and the both worked perfectly.
Please see picture attached of the troublesome part.
