The trick to getting rid of the filmy haze is to wipe it off really REALLY well. This means re-wiping it two or three times with a fresh, clean towel each time. It's a bit of a pain, but once the haze is gone, you'll love the results.
when removing rain-x... i use a slightly moistened towel... this makes a world of difference in eliminating the haze. but now i use aquapel instead... longer lasting.
