I have noticed that when I'm putting the top down or up I have the same concern, the front portion of the top slaps down onto the frame. I have looked through all of the threads and do not see any comment on my concern. It started doing it just when I was putting the top up, especially if on a hill, at the point of the bonnet closing. Now when I put the top down it will slap down on the front and stop the completion, until I push the front up again. Does not matter if I am on a hill or flat ground.

I would check the tension cords that are located on each side and under the Top Pads (web straps). I suspect that one or both have broke. The tension cord has a coil spring on the front end, at the front bow frame, and then attaches to the backside of the first cross frame member. I believe the cord is prone to break by the cross frame member.
There's another cable (steel) that runs from the corner of the Front Bow frame to the second cross frame member and has a small coil spring on the back end. This cable runs inside a pocket on the side of the top. This cable also helps to hold the front section up. This cable is not likely to break, but maybe has come unattached from the front bow frame.
