(Note: I actually syphoned out about a 1/2 Quart thru the Filter Housing.) Besides, I hate having 1/2 quart of oil sitting around in my garage cabinet.
These oil changes need to be done using the "fleece" filter element instead of the "cellulose "or paper filter element for these engines. I wouldn't trust any service shop performing these oil changes to use the more expensive fleece filter element. The paper filter element tends to collapse over time and you would probably need to come back every 3000 miles. With the fleece filter, you could go 7000 miles, which is the oil change interval the FSS (Flexible Service System) will reset to & M-B recommends this interval when using an approved synthetic oil. I do an oil change on my 2007 Coupe every 2 years but hardly ever drive 7000 miles in that time frame. And yes, I only add 8 quarts of recommended 0w40 synthetic oil (like other Crossfire Owners on this forum; some use 5w40) when I perform the oil change. The dipstick in my car will show FULL doing this.
I've been changing at least once / year......but, in the last 12 months Wilma has been driven less than 1,000 miles......I think I'm gonna let it go another 6 months...even though Mobil says at least once / year.
