So you actually have a 2006 model, I know that the UK calls the year the car is registered as the model year. But you did not hint at that, you should actually quote the actual model year.
Disconnect the alarm as noted, you can just unplug it. You can replace it with one like you have or pay more for one that beeps in sync with the flashing lights, that is popular here. It is not a irritating noise.
You are lucky the Chrysler dealer is miles away, they know nothing of these cars and will rob you blind for doing nothing. If you must find an independent garage that fixes Mercedes as it is a basic SLK320 astounding know.
Good luck, sort each problem on its own, do not throw parts at it hoping to fix it, do it logically.
