Look at section 24 in the service manual. The ambient temp sensor is covered there. It is basically two wires from the sensor to the instrument panel and two wires from the instrument panel to the A/C control module. You must have a broken connector/wire or a short in those wires. If it isn't that then the A/C controller is bad or you have a bad temp sensor. Look at the service manual for details.
