Good question. I don't know. Seems they needed a specific setup for the bigger wheels and different axle curb weight.

A.s.f.a.i.k the Crossfire specific suspension setup was made inhouse at Karman. So maybe the Karman and the Daimler Chrysler / Mercedes guys didn't talk to each other, because the project was completely outsourced to Karman. Who knows…
