Duke, That looks like oil to me. If it is trans fluid you should change the fluid also while doing the DIY fix. One thing I would do is pull the two black rubber plugs in center of your picture. Check for oil residue in there. To me it looks like oil could be seeping from them. If there is an oil overfill it will kick out there.
