More than likely, the puddle is a result of the "O" ring failure at the point where the Transmission harness cable inserts into the transmission. There is an "O" ring that fails and will leak, if left in this condition for too long, it is possible for the fluid to "wick" up to the transmission control module and ruin it. It is an easy and cheap fix. There are dip sticks available for our cars. Rob at NeedsWings dot com has them. Temperature of the fluid is important when reading the dip stick.
