Default Re: Oil Cooler Gasket Leak

I have had to change these same gaskets in my V8 and in an SRT6, recently. Both use the exact same gaskets, FWIW. Anyway, the V8's leak was from the big gasket under the filter housing. All three gaskets were hard as rocks. The SRT6 was plainly leaking at the cooler, but I went ahead and changed all three. Guess what? All three - hard as rocks. Also, getting the cooler off of the filter housing is a piece of cake, with the whole assembly out of the car. You will need a 48mm socket to get the filter housing out. That bolt will be pretty tight. I bought the 48mm socket (and a 1/2" -> 3/4" drive adapter) from Amazon for <$20. I changed all three gaskets on the SRT6 in under 30 minutes, including running all of the parts through the parts washer to clean it all up. Seeing how hard it would be to get that bottom rear bolt out of the cooler housing with the assembly on the engine, I'll never change just those two gaskets, but the whole set at once.

Rob @NeedsWings can get you all fixed up on the good gaskets.
