Default Re: Biggest stereo bang for the buck mod

I just received an Alpine CD player and Sirius XM receiver to install in my XFire, from Crutchfield, I previously used Crutchfield to replace the radio in my 1988 Chevy Corsica with a Kenwood CD player and all new speakers. The car is a heap, but with the new stereo system, I don't mind driving it. The kit they furnished dropped right into place, with a harness that connected up perfectly to the original Chevy speaker harness and all the Chevy wiring, along with a complete step-by-step Master Sheet that covered every step of the entire installation. I was VERY impressed with this and put it in in a couple of hours. I expect the Crossfire kit from Crutchfield will be just as good. There was not a SINGLE problem through the entire install. They document everything and include everything in the kit.
Will your new mod work with a different stereo than the original? I don't want to keep the original because:
A. It has developed a problem with being intermittent, where it will stop playing CD's or the radio, after 4 hours or so of continuous operation. It will come back to life after 15-20 minutes, but this is NOT OK, and I don't want to pay to have it repaired, since it lacks a lot of the features I want, anyway.
B. In the bright Arizona sun, even with the brightness **** turned up all the way, the display screen is unreadable except at night.
