you can hold the shifter inthe + plus or you can tap it to the + side , example ,if u r going 40 miles per hour and u shift into the - you will only drop one gear tap the shifter(-) and it will drop another gear.. now it u want 2 go back in drive mode ((two waus to do that ) tap the shifter + 4 or 5 times or jusr hold it on the + side.. the only time u would have to stop to restart your car id if u went into limp mode then what u decribed is correct.
